Getting ready

In January 2013, I'll have my first solo show of photographs.  It's sorely tempting to do a 'the best of' retrospective, but instead, at the urging of a good friend, I'll be showing some of my photos of and around St. James Anglican Church in Dundas.  Funnily enough, that's where the art show will be taking place.  I have taken dozens of photos of this particular arch, as the light comes in from around the corner, and the colour of the hangings nearby gives a pinkish-orange glow that I find most satisfying.

This morning I was in the church to teach (I teach my organ students there, too) and I noticed that the light was particularly interesting, so I shot a few more photos which include the two in this posting.  What surprised me was the optical illusion of 'is the arch inward or outward' happening.  I don't ever recall seeing that in one of my shots before.

Do any of you remember getting World magazine when you were younger?  I did, and I loved it.  The optical illusions were among my favourite parts because not only did they show them to you, but they explained them, too, which was so wonderful.

As I prepare for this show, I'll need to think carefully about colour, because too many of these photos in the sandy/taupe range could be really boring, I'm afraid.  May need to get one printed at poster size and see how it all comes out.

I'm excited to be starting my, I don't know, sixth, seventh, or so blog here.  I get so many ideas sometimes that they clog up then I stop writing in them.  Really, the best exercise I can give my brain is to write every day, and I do write, but now I need to undertake to write on my blog, not just in my notebooks.
